Unsung Heroes

Unsung Hero is an award given to one person every year by PetCo. This year Kayla Denney a Texas woman won this year. Last November she took over the animal shelter in Taft, Texas. The animal shelter before her taking over had a 100% kill rate and once she received the job 0 were killed. Ever since taking over she has saved 565 dogs and cats.
“It’s an older shelter and its run-down,” she said. “We got lights thanks to a donor who put in electricity for us, but I want indoor-outdoor kennels with a guillotine in between so when it’s raining we can put them inside.”
A guillotine is a pet door that raises and lowers when a pet wants to enter or exit, not the medieval kind. In February just four months after receiving the job she was in the top 10 of the Unsung Hero awards. She was rewarded $10,000 for being in the top 10 and having won she received $25,000. She later said that all of the profits from winning unsung heroes will go back to the Taft animal shelter.
